Homebrew WII v4.3u (2018)

Ugh I feel old. The original WII is nostalgic, bringing me back to the days with my childhood best friend. Recently just bought a used (in fact my first) WII, and with my addiction with DIY, it is hard not to mess with the software. There are lots of tutorial online, yet most of them have steps missing or are outdated. So, I compiled a tutorial here for my own reference, of start to finish step by step to make the WII run CUSTOM SELF-PROGRAMMED 100% LEGAL ISOs, and this will probably never be patched, as the last update was in 2010. This tutorial will use the Letterbomb method.

1. If you haven’t done so, update your WII to the latest version. I have only tested this with my WII, which is a US model. If you cannot figure out this step, then this tutorial is not for you, and please continue enjoying your WII as it is.

2. Go to https://please.hackmii.com/ , and enter your WII’s WI-FI MAC address. Do the recaptcha and “cut the red wire”. You will get a download. It is important to do the proceeding steps within some date of the download (more on this later).

3. Format an SD card to FAT32. I used a 4gb, as this is a card you will have to leave in the system.

4. Copy the folder “private” and the file “boot.elf” from please.hackmii into the root of the sd card.

5. insert the SD card and boot up your WII

6. click the mail icon in the lower right hand corner in the WII menu.

7. There should be a red icon of a mail with a black bomb inside it. If you don’t see it, press the left arrow and scroll back a few days. (this is why step 2 is time sensitive.)

8. Click on the letter, and letterbomb will load. One of the loading screens alerting how you got scammed if you paid for the software will take a while to load, don’t worry.

9. Follow the instructions on screen to install the homebrew channel, as well as BootMii. I prefer installing BootMii as an IOS in the SdCard, as this is completely revertible.

9b. If everything turns out fine, you should see a Homebrew channel on your Wii menu. Open it, and it should have a blank screen with bubbles. You have no Homebrew apps on it, that’s why its blank.

10. Make sure your WII is connected to the internet. Download the D2x installer. Create a folder named “apps” in the root of your SDCard. This where all the Homebrew apps go. (think of homebrew as something like an API) Unzip and copy the folder “d2x-cios-installer” into the /apps/ directory in the SDCard. Your SDcard should now have a path like:

/apps/d2x-cios-installer

11. Insert the card and boot up the Wii. You should now see a new app on the Homebrew channel, named somewhere along the lines of “d2x cios installer”. Open the homebrew app, and follow the instructions on screen.

12. When you get to this following screen, use the up/down arrows to select the first line, then spam the right key until you get the latest version. For the next line, “base” select I believe is 236 or 36. Select slot 249 and revision with the highest number.

13. Press ok to continue, choosing memory slot 249.

14. Time to install the actual software that loads the 100% FULLY LEGAL ISOS THAT YOU DIDN’T TAKE FROM PIRATE BAY. Download the package

USBLoader_GX_V3_0_AllinOnePackage_IOS249.zip from here.

15. Copy the contents of the “apps” folder to the apps folder of the sd card. Copy the “wad” folder to the root of the sd card.

16. Plug in the SD card into the WII, testing the USBLoader gx.

17. Skip to step 18 if you’re not interested in making a shortcut to usbloader to your home screen.

17a. Download and install Multi Mod Manager using a similar method as above.

17b. Fire up Multi Mod Manager from the homebrew menu, you should get a screen like this:

17c. Scroll down to WAD manager, browse to the /wad folder of the sd card and create a shortcut.

17d. now you should get a shortcut to usbloader gx on your home screen.

18. Download Wii Backup Manager. (Direct link to skip ads) This will help you load your 100% LEGAL ISOs onto a usb flash drive.

19. Fire up Wii Backup Manager, and load and ISO onto a fat32 formatted flash drive. To do this, you’ll have to assign drive 1 to your flash drive (options>settings>startup tab, then restart WBM). Add an ISO by clicking add then navigating to your ISO. Press the drive 1 tab, make sure the checkbox for the ISO is checked, then click transfer. The resulting file should be significantly smaller than the ISO.

20. Plug in your flash drive to your wii, then fire up usbloader gx. select your game, it should now be playable.

I will host all the required files below on mediafire, besides the download from please.hackmii, as that requires a mac address.
